Popular Tollywood hero from the mega family Ram Charan, whose mega film RRR is up for release shortly, is said to be diversifying into electronic media industry.
According to sources, Ram Charan is planning to acquire a lesser known Telugu television news channel shortly. Talks are in the final stages and the channel might soon change hands, sources said.
The channel, which was originally established by a veteran Telugu journalist, changed quite a few hands.
A former politician-turned-advisor to the Andhra Pradesh government had also managed the channel for some time, before handing it over to another senior journalist.
However, due to poor infrastructure and lack of quality in the editorial staff, led to the channel running into heavy losses.
It was looking for a buyer for quite some time and Ram Charan came up with an attractive offer to take over the channel.
In all probability, Ram Charan might come up with a big announcement on the acquisition of this channel soon.
Apart from this channel, he is also said to be planning to acquire a couple of more entertainment channels, details of which are not yet known.
It is learnt the channel was primarily to help Jana Sena Party led by actor Pawan Kalyan, uncle of Ram Charan, in the next assembly elections in Andhra Pradesh.
It is a known fact that Ram Charan has a lot of affinity towards his uncle and had even offered to campaign on behalf of Jana Sena in the last elections.
Apparently, Ram Charan is of the view that Pawan Kalyan requires a lot of support from the media to bounce back at least in the next elections and hopes the new channel would play that role.
