A noted producer shared his anguish like this “Costumes are curse to producers. During the days of NTR, ANR and till the time of Chiranjeevi, tailors used to take measurements and stitch it for the entire cast. Cloth material was not important though it was good quality. There was no brand craze.”
He added “But now, the international brands are screwing us up. For big hero movies, a minimum of Rs 30 Lakhs - Rs40 lakhs has to be catered only for costumes. Forget costumes, even the lingerie of heroines is showing stars. A top heroine I have been working with demanded nothing but Victoria’s Secret. When we pleaded with her, she stepped down a bit but demanded nothing less than Bordelle and Carine Gilson. Now, we have to dig holes in our pocket for her bras and bikinis.”
Another producer revealed “One big hero demanded a Rs 25000 shoe. Who will care if it is 2k or 3k? He won’t even wear it for all scenes. But he was adamant and said ‘I won’t wear anything, buy me a branded shoe only. They demand suits of Rs 50000. Honestly, these international brands are bombing producers” These are the lamentation of the producer folks.
