It is back to square one for superstar Pawan Kalyan's ambitious project Gabbar Singh 2.
For, the production team, which unceremoniously dumped Anisha Ambrose from the role of the female lead, is now increasingly finding it difficult to identify her replacement.
Moreover, leading ladies of Tollywood, such as, Rakul Preet Singh, Rashi Khanna and others have said `no' to Gabbar Singh 2 because of their current commitments.
With the team unable to zero in on any big name for the heroine's role, there are indications that a first-time actress might get her opportunity to debut in Telugu movies.
“The Gabbar Singh 2 team has been facing an uphill task since day one. They failed to convince top Bollywood actresses to act in the movie. Then, they roped in Anisha, shot with her for two days and dropped her. Now, other actresses are skeptical about taking up the same role,“ a source from unit said.
It should not come as a surprise for the makers of Gabbar Singh 2 that the leading ladies of Tollywood are staying away from the movie. The project is kind of jinxed since day one when the movie went on the floors in November 2013.
“There is absolutely no doubt that Gabbar Singh 2 will be the big ticket to glory for any aspiring actress. But the established heroines of Telugu movies are aware that there might not be much scope for a heroine in the movie because they believe that it is a Pawan Kalyan's show all the way,“ a leading casting director of Tollywood said.
Consequently, Gabbar Singh 2 has now commenced auditions for a new face in Hyderabad. Emerging actresses from Mumbai, Chennai and Bengaluru have already completed the screen test and the team has short-listed three of them.
“It can swing in anybody's favour, as all the three have met the criteria set by Gabbar Singh 2 crew. The actress is expected to join the shooting sets at the earliest,“ said a casting agent for the highly anticipated flick.
The team has already shot for few days in Maharashtra and it is to be seen who gets picked eventually to romance the superstar on the big screen. Or will it be jinxed again?
