Film director-turned-Union Minister of State for Coal Dasari Narayana Rao is understood to have revived attempts to rope in Megastar Chiranjeevi into the Congress politics.
Dasari, who strongly desires that his Kapu community should get the highest seat of power in the State after the next elections, reportedly convinced the Congress high command that Chiranjeevi should be brought into the Congress; otherwise, it would be difficult to retain power in the 2009 elections. Though many other Congress leaders tried and failed in their attempts to bring Chiranjeevi into politics in the past, Dasari is confident that he would be able to convince the Megastar, since the time is ripe for him to take a decision.
He reportedly sought an appointment with Sonia Gandhi for Chiranjeevi to work out the strategy. However, there has been no positive signal whatsoever from the Megastar side, but sources close to him say he might take a decision at the earliest, to preempt the Telugu Desam from launching Balakrishna into active politics.
