The mythological “Yama” (Lord of Death) is always an entertaining character for the film makers. And it is not an easy job to play the role of Yama, which was earlier donned by legend actor N T Rama Rao and after him Kaikala Satyanarayana.
In fact, Satyanarayana as Yama in the film “Yama Gola” and “Yama Leela”, virtually lived in that character. Later, after many years, It was Mohan Babu, who received such an acclaim for playing the same role. There were a few others like Kota Srinivasa Rao, who made futile attempts to portray Yama and the films did not click.
Now it’s the turn of villain-cum-hero Srihari to play the Yama role in Puri Jagannath’s film. Unlike the characters in the earlier films, Yama in this film descends on the US – not India.
It is learnt that Srihari has charged a bomb to act in that role. He is believed to have charged Rs 75 Lakhs to do his part in the film. Let us wait and see whether the role was worth that money.
