A heated debate is brewing within the Active Producers Guild, with producer Nagavamsi voicing strong concerns.
Several senior members of the guild are also exhibitors, and they seem unwilling to address the issue. However, serious producers are frustrated.
The core issue is the alleged rise of bot-generated reviews, likes, and interests on the BookMyShow app.
Producers argue that only real ticket buyers should be engaging with the platform, not artificial activity. They feel it's unfair that BookMyShow, which thrives on Tollywood's business, is encouraging such practices. Nagavamsi has been vocal about this in guild discussions.
Despite his efforts, guild leaders remain silent. Many have financial ties to BookMyShow, borrowing anywhere from Rs 2 crore to Rs 20 crore.
BookMyShow, after investing in theaters, controls ticket sales and profits from user charges, corporate bookings, and advertisements. Recently, the company reportedly invested Rs 20 crore in a multiplex being built by a senior hero.
With prominent guild members like Dil Raju, Asian Sunil, UV Vamsi, and Mythri Naveen owning theaters, they remain quiet.
As a result, Nagavamsi’s only option is to express his frustration in WhatsApp groups, as no one else dares to challenge BookMyShow.
