Yet another clash at AP-TS border averted

Yet another clash at AP-TS border averted

Yet another major law and order breakdown was averted at Damaracherla on the borders of Andhra and Telangana in Nalgonda district, thanks to the timely intervention of the district police headed by superintendent of police A V Ranganath on Saturday.

Hundreds of migrant labourers belonging to Andhra Pradesh, who had been stranded in Telangana for the last 40 days, came to Damarcharla in their own vehicles and some others on foot, to get back into their native state, on coming to know that the Centre has relaxed rules to enable migrant workers return to their native places.

But they were stranded at the check-post since Saturday morning with the AP police not allowing them to enter their State.

The AP police asked the migrant labourers to get in touch with revenue officials in Telangana and get their names included in the list of migrant labour intending to cross-over.

The Andhra police insisted that labourers who came on their own would not be permitted to enter, and only those who came in vehicles arranged by the Telangana State government would be allowed entry.

This led to a tense situation, as workers were about to turn violent. But Nalgonda SP Ranganath rushed there and spoke to top police officials in the neighbouring State.

Later, he arranged special vehicles for 100 migrant labourers who were stranded at the State border to take them to their native places.

Nalgonda district police set up a camp at the check-post to conduct health screening of the migrant labour.

Nearly 200 migrant labourers went to Andhra Pradesh from Telangana State in the specially arranged buses during the day.

Ranganath instructed the police personnel posted at the check-post to keep vigilant till the completion of the lockdown.
