USA: Telugu Association's 'Gambling' For Charity?

Greater Atlanta Telugu Sangham has released a poster titled 'Charity Poker Tournament'. The combination of gambling and charity raises questions. What direction are the Telugu Associations headed in is the question among some Telugus living in the USA?

Sharing about this, an insider expressed frustration, saying, "This incident serves to highlight the perceived decline in the standards of American Telugu Associations. They might even organize a Charity Alcohol Party or engage in other questionable activities if they become desperate. The irony is that around 25 names, including those of women, are listed on this Poker Tournament poster. Is this our Telugu culture?"

The Tournament organizers are selling tickets for $40 and $50 to participate in this 'Charity Poker Tournament', which also includes a dinner. About 20 sponsors are associated with this 'Charity Event'.

On the flip side, a supporter of this event shared, "What's the issue here? Playing Poker is a form of entertainment and shouldn't be solely viewed as gambling. Living in the USA, we should also embrace American forms of entertainment while maintaining Telugu unity."

A member of another Telugu Association also supported this by saying, "What can they do? It's quite challenging to secure charity donations solely through appeals. Sometimes, we need to offer entertainment in exchange. Gambling and partying seem to be the only way, even though there are risks for the organizers. As long as our intentions are positive, we shouldn't be overly concerned about the means."
