The Economic Survey 2024-25 highlights significant disparities in average earnings across employment types, gender, and rural-urban locations for 2023-24.
Urban workers earned more than rural counterparts. Urban males averaged INR 22,930 ($272.91) monthly, compared to INR 13,907 ($165.51) for rural males. Urban females earned INR 8,489 ($101.03), while rural females earned INR 4,907 ($58.40).
Self-employed individuals earned INR 16,007 ($190.48) in rural areas and INR 20,702 ($246.37) in urban areas. Regular urban employees averaged INR 25,501 ($303.43) monthly, compared to INR 18,029 ($214.55) in rural areas.
Casual workers’ daily wages were INR 434 ($5.16) for rural males, INR 506 ($6.02) for urban males, INR 290 ($3.45) for rural females, and INR 450 ($5.36) for urban females.
