Press Note: ATA Celebrated Dasara Festival

American Telugu Association (ATA) Southwest Region Celebrated Dasara Festival and Recognized Local Leadership at Pasand Indian Restaurant, Irving, TX
 
Several prominent current and former leaders of ATA were recognized at a grand dinner organized by Gurram Srinivasa Reddy (SW Regional Coordinator, ATA) tonight.   Over 30 leaders including former presidents AVN Reddy, Sandhya Gavva, President-elect Jithender Reddy, Dr. Subramanyam & Subhashini Boya, Dr. Srinivasa Reddy Aalla etc.   The current and past presidents of Telugu Association of TANTEX such as Raja Reddy, Shyamala Rumalla, Bhima Penta, Dr. JP Reddy, Jagpal Naini, Ben Gupta, RK Panditi, Ananda Murthy and Indira Konda, etc.
 
Over 160 Telugu people from various walks of life participated in this grand event was started by mellifluous rendition of "Maa Telugu Talliki" by Smt. Aparna.   Smt. Shyamala Rumalla welcomed the gathering.  ATA Presidents AVN Reddy and Jithender Reddy spoke eloquently about the organization, its values and its services to the community.   They requested everybody to become life members.  Jithender Reddy has alerted the community about the danger of Telugu becoming a dead language in 70-100 years if we don't start using it more often in the households.   They both appealed to the gathering to support and attend the ATA 2010 Convention to be held in Houston and make it a grand success.
 
Former ATA President Sandhya Gavva recognized chairs of all committees that supported her during ATA 2002 Convention in Dallas.   Several people such as Dr. Puligandla Viswanadham, Dr. Srinivas Aalla, Ajay Reddy, Satyan Kalyandurg, (former President of (IANT) Indian Association of North Texas), Raghupati Boorla (President, DFW Hindu Temple Society) etc. extolled the values of community service, its benefits, and participants' role.
 
Mr. Gurram Srinivas Reddy presented the ATA Dallas regional activities to the members ATA for their approval and participation.   Based on several questions fellow members raised during ATA Meetings in January and May 2007, he shared some of the ideas regarding ATA community service in Dallas/Fort Worth area.
 
He reiterated that if properly executed these activities would make ATA the most meaningful, useful and vibrant organization.

In conclusion, Mr. Gurram Srinivas Reddy observed that though there are several hundreds and thousands of Telugu people live in Dallas Fort worth locally, the membership roles do not reflect that.   He encouraged everybody to become member of any Telugu association and let their voice be heard.  He promised to make ATA Southwest region a great, vibrant and active region among all ATA regions.
 
This grand event was well supported and attended by several local businesses, doctors, professionals and other individuals. Ghazal Srinivas made a cameo appearance and entertained the audience with couple of ghazals – on "Enquiring Call of the Hometown" and "Mother's Love". Dr. Gazal Srinivas performance was the high light of the evenings meeting and all the guests enjoyed it immensely. Dr. Srinivas in his speech was grateful to ATA organization for inviting him and also he said ATA is the first organization to invite him to the United States.
