A recent report, citing alleged scandals and affairs, claims that Kamala Harris is blaming her husband, Doug Emhoff, for her 2024 presidential election loss.
Following her defeat to Donald Trump, Harris appeared composed and welcoming in public, but the report suggests she privately holds Emhoff responsible for the electoral setback.
On January 17, while preparations for Donald Trump's return to the White House were underway, Harris’s staff gathered in her ceremonial office to watch her sign the desk, a longstanding tradition among vice presidents. During the event, Emhoff stood behind her for a photo as she signed with a Sharpie marker.
"It is not my nature to go quietly into the night," Harris told reporters, adding, "So don’t worry about that."
When asked about her future plans, she responded, "I’ll keep you posted."
Many attributed Harris's loss to President Joe Biden's decision to run for re-election, arguing that it placed her in a difficult position.
Critics also pointed out Harris’s own shortcomings, suggesting she should have adopted a more populist message instead of focusing on Trump’s antidemocratic threats while campaigning alongside former Republican congresswoman Liz Cheney.
Furthermore, Harris struggled to distinguish herself from Biden, whose popularity among voters remained low.
With Trump now in office, Harris is reportedly shifting the blame to her husband, Doug Emhoff, whom she allegedly considers "dead weight."
According to the Daily Mail, a source stated, "Doug did Kamala no favors during the election," pointing to controversies surrounding him.
The report alleges that Emhoff faced damaging allegations, including claims that he impregnated his child’s nanny while still married to his first wife and assaulted an ex-girlfriend, which undermined his advocacy for women's rights.
The publication further claims that those close to the couple suspect marital tensions, which were reportedly visible during their appearance at former President Jimmy Carter’s funeral on January 9.
Despite Trump's inauguration, videos circulating on social media suggest that Harris and Emhoff exhibited a tense demeanor during public appearances.
Adding to the speculation, reports indicate that Emhoff has accepted a position with a prestigious New York law firm, which will necessitate frequent travel between New York and Los Angeles.
Meanwhile, Harris is rumored to be considering writing a book and possibly running for governor or even another presidential bid. At 60 years old, she remains relatively young in a political landscape dominated by older leaders.
Sources close to Harris believe she is more inclined to seek the presidency again in 2028 rather than contest the California gubernatorial race.
"I was with her last week when she was signing her desk, and she told me, 'You know me well enough to know that I’m not going to go away quietly,'" Harris’s former communications chief, Ashley Etienne, was quoted as saying.
Scandals Surrounding Doug Emhoff
Earlier reports from the Daily Mail detailed a series of allegations against Emhoff. Sources claim Harris herself had an affair with former San Francisco mayor Willie Brown.
In August, it was reported that Emhoff had an affair with Najen Naylor, his daughter’s nanny, while still married to his first wife, film producer Kerstin Mackin.
Allegedly, Emhoff paid Naylor $80,000 in exchange for signing a non-disclosure agreement, and the affair contributed to his 2009 divorce.
Further controversy arose in October when a former girlfriend accused Emhoff of slapping her during an A-list event in Cannes, France, in May 2012.
According to reports, Emhoff later admitted to having an extramarital affair, acknowledging that his actions strained his first marriage but claiming they eventually reconciled as a family.
Additionally, former colleagues at the Los Angeles law firm Venable, where Emhoff worked from 2006 to 2017, accused him of fostering a misogynistic work environment.
Reports suggest Emhoff used expletives, hosted male-only cocktail hours, withdrew perks from female employees who did not flirt with him, and preferred young, attractive associates for professional events.
These allegations, if proven, could significantly impact Harris's political prospects and further strain her personal life.
