The name of the game is software when it comes to the Indian thinking. While it offers a glamorous office and some MNC standards, it also offers some big time fat packages. Well, those were the days of glory and the IT boys and girls were considered the hottest cakes when it comes to marriages and other investment groups as well.
But right now, the situation has changed and more than anyone, the parents of the IT folks are said to be facing the heat and are under stress. Ironically, there are many who are having offer letters of big blue chip companies but then they are yet to receive the call for the joining date and other formalities. Since then, the letter holders have been idling away their time and just wasting precious hours. Some of the sensible lot have got into some local design courses and are trying to increase their knowledge.
For those who belong to the well off families, they are going abroad for further studies so that an additional qualification would help. All this is due to the fact that the offer letters have been lying with them since months but none of them have been getting calls regarding the joining date. On the other hand, the companies are facing a different situation. It was during the peak recession time that many staff was laid off and now they are ready to join back. So companies are facing a dilemma over preference to take the experienced lot or the new ones so that fresh ideas can be generated. As for the parents, they are saying that if their children are not doing much for a year, that’s ok, but if they are kept on hold for 2-3 years then the tension factor is building up for them. As it is, the craze for IT has not gone down though the market is in deep crisis.
But then, there are some practical hiccups and challenges that are currently staring into the face of the IT crazy families and they are now said to be looking at other avenues for employment. Some hope that the recession acts as a blessing in disguise and wipes away the sheep herd mentality of getting into IT at all costs. This would nurture the other fields as well which have got strong potential.
