
Dr Reddy's Laboratories founder Dr Kallam Anji Reddy passed away this evening at a hospital in Hyderabad. He is survived by wife Samrajyam, daughter Anuradha and son K. Satish Reddy.
He was 73.
Padmabhushan Dr Anji Reddy worked with Indian Drugs and Pharmaceuticals Limited (IDPL), a pharmaceutical company from 1969-75. He later quit and founded Uniloids in 1976 and was the managing director till 1980, when he founded Standard Organics Limited before finally establishing Dr. Reddy's Laboratories was started in 1984 with an initial capital expenditure of Rs 25 lakh.
He was also the chairman of Dr Reddy's Foundation, the corporate and social responsibility arm of the group.
Dr Reddy's Labs started as an export dependent company in the 80's to an indipendent entity in the 1990's to finally an export-oriented industry that he left it as, today.
It became the first company to start drug discovery research in 1993.
