Strange are the ways of those folks who are caste crazy and this is in a rather high proportion when it comes to the film industry. Just because someone has a surname that matches their community the film folk flock to him trying to wish him the very best of luck and do some other stunts. However, there are times when such things lead to a comedy of errors.
The perfect example for that is Ajay Shastry, director of 'Nenu Meeku Telusaa?' and there is news that a group of Brahmin veterans attempted to give a spate of calls for Ajay Shastry with some motivating talk and also a word of wisdom to lift the community. It was not until they realized that Ajay is actually a Christian that their tongue went into their cheek.
Another classic story is that of Gummadi Gopalakrishna (we are not talking about the most popular Gummadi Venkateshwara Rao, the film actor), the veteran stage personality who was received with loads of fervor by the 'Kamma' heads in the tinsel town and after a few rounds of felicitations and other honorary activities in TANA a few years back their foot came into their mouth when they realized that Gummadi was actually a Brahmin and not a Kamma as they assumed. As surname Gummadi is popular among Kammas, they assumed that Gopalakrishna also belongs to same community. One really wonders if there will be a day when people will come out of this primitive caste blocks and look at treating a person as a human being than a by-product of a caste.
