You released a song stating Sachin Tendulkar, Obama, Mahesh Babu, Bill Gates and other celebrities as back benchers in their college. What is the evidence?
The reason for tagging them as back benchers is that any successful person in life will focus not just on studies but extra curricular activities. I met many such people those identify themselves as back benchers in college days. To make it more hitting, I used the names of those celebrities as back benchers to convey to audience that many back benchers are successful in life.
You mentioned that the idea of Back Bench Student took its genesis at the launch of Chetan Bhagat’s ‘Revolution 2020’. What’s the connection?
I launched Chetan Bhagat’s ‘Revolution 2020’ along with my stars of ‘It’s My Love Story’ and read the book that depicted the bad state of engineering colleges. I thought of making a film on such back drop but eventually decided to make on the bad state of engineering students. That’s how the idea started from that occasion.
You have been making films targeting only the youth be it Sneha Geetam, It’s My Love Story or Back Bench Student. What’s the reason?
These days only the audience of age group between 16 and 30 are coming to theatres. And the other age group audiences come only by the talk that spreads from this first set of audience. With the budgets I handle I plan to address the requirement of only the youth audience. The youth bother about only two things- their career and then love. My stories revolve on those aspects. The story line may be different by the spirit will be same. In ‘Sneha Geetam’ I’ve shown the aspirations of youth, in ‘IMLS’ I’ve shown how to convince parents when fallen in love. In ‘Back Bench Student’ I have attempted to show, failing in subjects is not the end of life.
It was initially publicized that ‘BBS’ is a bi lingual. Is it really happening in Tamil? If yes, when?
Yes, it is happening. Just 7 days shoot is left. As soon as the release of ‘BBS’ we are going to Chennai to complete that shoot. Tentatively the Tamil version will release in June.
Why did you make BBS again with new face?
I don’t name the names of a few known heroes those hurt me. I tried to narrate the story to two heroes but they have shown very bad attitude. They were never successful in career, but live in an illusion that they are successful. When I approached one hero to narrate story, he asked me ‘what is the budget, first”. And the other one straight away said, “I want only pucca mass subject”. Hence I decided not to go to known actors but to stick on to new faces.
Between Archana Kavi and Piaa Bajpai whom do you rate the best?
Both are really superb. I wanted Archana to be emotional through out the film and she did that perfectly. And I expected Piaa to be with intensity and she did her job very well.
What is your comment on Mahat?
He is a brilliant and energetic guy. His career graph will grow exponentially. He has shown lot of energy in dances and fights.
You are making the remake of Vicky Donor as your next project. Did you get the rights of ‘Vicky Donor’ or attempting a free make with necessary changes?
My producer got the rights from the Hindi producers.
