Kavuri's daughter gets MLC seat?

The Congress high command is learnt to have finalised the name of Sri Nagi, daughter of senior Congress MP from Eluru Kavuri Sambasiva Rao, for the MLC seat under the MLAs’ quota, elections for which are scheduled to be held on March 21.

According to reports from New Delhi, the Congress high command has finalised the names of five candidates to be nominated to the legislative council under the MLAs’ quota on behalf of the party. The names that are doing rounds are: Mohammad Ali Shabbir, Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy, Ragya Bharati Naik, Sri Nagi and Raghurami Reddy. The party is also said to have finalised the names of Kanteti Satyanarayana Raju and Lakshmi Siva Kumari under the Governor’s quota.

Apparently, the Congress high command sought to pacify Kavuri by giving MLC seat to his daughter. Kavuri had been sulking ever since he was denied the berth in the union cabinet and had even submitted his resignation letter to Lok Sabha speaker Meira Kumar. However, he had to withdraw his resignation and decided to remain in the Congress party following an assurance from the high command. Accordingly, Sonia has satisfied his ego by selecting his daughter, say sources.

In any case, one has to wait till the official list comes out from Delhi, because there is always a slip between cup and lip and who knows Kavuri might even go back to his sulking mood!
