1980s In 2013 @ Tollywood Business

During the early 80s there was a concept, stuff like devotional and mythological flicks were screened as morning shows and noon show. From matinee onwards the main films were screened. Today, it is known that the big films are occupying all the theatres pushing out the small budget films.

With this, it is heard that the small budget movie makers are planning to come up with a decree by approaching the concerned authorities. Though survival of the fittest is the game in industry some generosity should be shown for small films also, at the end of the day it is an art and all must get equal chance.

Lately, the small flicks are many and they form the majority but they are coming in minor quantities. They are not working as they are succumbing to the presence of the big films in all seasons. So now, it is heard that the 80s concept is likely to be introduced once again. As part of that, the morning show will have small flicks and if possible matinee as well.

From first show onwards the big movies will be screened. The other proposal is, no entertainment tax should be levied for small movies and for big movies it should be there. With this theatres will automatically run to small films. The entertainment tax is exorbitantly high. For small flicks theatre rent is less. Some theatres might give 4 shows also.

But then, there is a point here. What is the definition of a small flick? If someone comes up with a ‘Boothu’ flick why entertainment tax exemption should come? So, the budget should be small and the censor certificate should be U. Usually, a film made below Rs 4 crores is considered small. So, if this works then the 80s concept will be back. In multiplexes 1 screen can be dedicated to small flicks. Let us see how this goes.
