Jagan To Remain In Jail Indefinitely?

YSR Congress party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy may have to remain in jail for an indefinite period, if one were to go by the judgement of the Andhra Pradesh High Court on Thursday.

The High Court dismissed the regular bail petition of Jagan in connection with an alleged illegal assets case being probed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The High Court observed that Jagan would not be eligible for bail till the investigation is completed and the final charge sheet is filed.

Though Jagan’s counsel S Niranjan Reddy argued that the CBI was deliberately delaying the investigation which appeared to be never-ending only with a view to keeping Jagan in jail for an indefinite period. He said the bail could not be denied to Jagan in the name of incomplete investigation and wanted that the court fix a deadline for the completion of investigation.

The CBI, however, argued that it was unable to speed up the investigation into Jagan’s case owing to the non-cooperation of the state government. It reminded that the Supreme Court had not fixed any deadline for the investigation. The High Court agreed with the CBI argument.
