The best way to go into one’s heart is through stomach, goes a saying. The politicians have been following this adage sincerely to win the hearts of the people by offering them sumptuous food at subsidised rates.
Close on the heels of Anna Canteens set up by the Telugu Desam Party government in Andhra Pradesh to provide lunch at subsidised rate of Rs 5 per plate, firebrand YSR Congress party MLA from Nagari R K Roja has also announced that she would soon launch YSR canteens in her constituency in Chittoor district to benefit the poor and needy by providing subsidised food.
She said she had taken the decision as the Naidu government had neglected the constituencies of the opposition party MLAs in setting up of Anna canteens.
“The TDP government has not released even a single rupee to my constituency. All schemes for the poor, including provision of fans and coolers and water filter plants are being implemented from my own funds.
Very soon, I will set up YSR canteens all over my constituency to provide subsidised food for the poor,” she said.
Obviously, Roja has realised that it would be difficult for her to retain her seat unless she takes up some populist schemes like setting up of subsidised canteens.
YSRC MLA from Mangalagiri Alla Ramakrishna Reddy has also been running similar subsidised canteens in the name of Rajanna canteens in his constituency and they have become a big hit.
So, one won’t be surprised if all the YSRC MLAs also follow a similar plan in their respective constituencies to attract voters!
