No, it is not 27 as originally proposed, but it would 30 districts in Telangana with effect from Dasara. A decision to this effect was taken by chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao at a meeting on Monday.
Apart from the originally proposed 17 news districts, KCR approved three more districts, succumbing to the demand from local people and their representatives. They are: Siricilla, Gadwal and Jangaon.
While Sircilla is being created to empower his son K T Rama Rao, the announcement of Gadwal and Jangaon was made to neutralise the Congress leaders D K Aruna and Ponnala Lakshmaiah respectively.
“We don’t mind creation of more districts, mandals and revenue divisions as per the demand of the local people for the sake of administrative convenience. We are only trying to set right the lapses done during the formation of mandals in the past.
Our aim is to see that there is no disgruntlement from any section of people from any part of the state and ensure that all the people are happy,” KCR said.
He made it clear that the TRS is going to come to power in the next elections as well and that even Opposition parties are acknowledging it.
“The formation of new districts is yet another step towards formation of Golden Telangana,” he said.
