Is it the credibility of Chandrababu Naidu that is preventing the BJP from giving the special status to Andhra Pradesh?
The BJP has come up with various reasons citing the 14th Finance Commission, the opposition by other States, etc to deny special status to Andhra Pradesh.
But political analysts opine that the actual reason could be the BJP’s lack of confidence in Naidu apart from the fact that they will not get any credit for special status in Chandrababu’s regime.
While claiming a huge revenue deficit, Naidu is making plans for a new capital on a huge scale. Already, there are allegations of nepotism and massive corruption.
And the Naidu government hasn’t scored any points with the Modi government over the Pattiseema project, either.
Simply put, the Modi government is said to be worried that if there is scope for so much corruption in a revenue deficit state, what would be the scale of corruption under Chandrababu if special status is granted?
Also, if the BJP were to grant the special status now, Chandrababu Naidu will walk away with all the credit. Either way, it seems as if Naidu is the biggest obstacle to Andhra Pradesh getting special status.
