Telangana Rashtra Samithi president and chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has been keeping everybody on tenterhooks over the conduct of early elections to the state assembly.
While his own party cadre is in a state of confusion as to what KCR is up to, the media is surprisingly getting different statements from different leaders on the possibility of snap polls in the state.
And the opposition parties are not able to understand how to work out their strategies because of the prevailing uncertainty over the early polls.
And that is what KCR wants. He is sending different signals with every passing day.
His sudden decision to rush to Delhi to meet the Prime Minister in the name of representing the state issues, sending his son K T Rama Rao to Delhi prepare the ground for talks with the BJP top leadership, his officials Rajiv Sharma and others holding secret talks with the Election Commission officials and lastly, his sudden visit to Raj Bhavan to meet Governor E S L Narasimhan – have all given different indications.
Apparently, the BJP state unit is not keen on early elections to the state assembly as it would no way benefit the party.
It submitted a report to the national leadership that the party might win good number of seats if the assembly polls are held along with the Lok Sabha elections.
KCR is said to be of the view that the TRS might be at loss if the elections are held along with Lok Sabha elections, since the falling Modi graph across the country impact will have an adverse effect on the TRS. But he cannot say it openly.
If he dissolves the assembly unilaterally, and asks for early polls now, there is no necessity for the Election Commission to hold the elections to Telangana along with the four other states in November and December, as Modi may agree with the state BJP. So, KCR will be neither here nor there, as he cannot continue as interim CM for such a long time.
That is why, he is going to Delhi to request the Prime Minister to allow him to go in for early elections. It remains to be seen whether Modi will agree for it or not.
