YSR Congress party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy's statement refusing to commit himself on securing reservations to Kapu community in education and employment has landed his party leaders from the community in deep trouble.
While Jagan has not come out with any clarification on his statement, Kapu leaders of his party are struggling to defend their leader to save their skin.
YSRC spokesman and Kapu leader Ambati Rambabu on Monday sought to blame it on the Telugu Desam Party leaders for distorting the comments of Jagan on Kapu quota issue.
He told media that Jagan only commented on the feasibility of the implementation of the reservations to Kapu community in wake of the Supreme Court verdict.
"Some vested interests have been trying to gain political mileage out of the statement and were distorting it with malice. It is unfortunate that even Kapu leader Mudragada Padmanabham had joined issue despite our unstinted support to the Kapu agitation seeking reservations," Ambati said.
"What our leader said was since the reservation issue was not in purview of the State Government as the quantum of quota has increased to over 50 per cent, he did not want to make further promises. He assured that he can double the allocation of funds to Kapu Corporation," Ambati asserted.
On Sunday, too, other Kapu leaders of YSRC like Kurasala Kanna Babu also made a similar attempt to defend Jagan, saying he was for Kapu quota and would welcome any suggestions in this regard.
But this damage control exercise will be of little help to the YSRC, unless Jagan himself makes another statement giving clarification.
