The high-decibel attack by YSR Congress party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy on his bete noire Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu on the latter's failure of implementing his pre-poll promises seems to have had some effect.
According to sources, Naidu is likely to make an announcement on unemployment allowance scheme during his Independence Day speech at Tirupati on Tuesday.
During the 2014 elections, the Telugu Desam Party’s main campaign was: “Vote of Babu, if you want a job” and Naidu declared then that youth who could not get the job would be given unemployment allowance.
The promise has never been implemented and the opposition party leader never lost any opportunity to take a dig at Naidu for failing to announce the unemployment allowance scheme.
With the by-election to Nandyal assembly seat just a few days away, the chief minister is of the view that if he makes an announcement on the scheme now, it would fetch positive result for the TDP in Nandyal.
Sources said the guidelines for the scheme have been framed and the scheme will be rolled out from Dasara.
While those who had already been registered with the employment exchanges would get the benefit immediately, others would be given a deadline for registering their names.
The scheme is applicable to the unemployed in the age group of 18-40 years. The allowance is fixed at Rs 2,000 per month for a post-graduate, Rs 1,500 for a graduate and Rs 1,000 for a person who passed out intermediate.
