Bharatiya Janata Party, which has been claiming to have extended a lot of help to the Andhra Pradesh government for construction of new capital Amaravati, is now strongly opposing the issuance of Amaravati bonds for financing the ongoing developmental works in the capital city.
Led by BJP national spokesman and Rajya Sabha member G V L Narasimha Rao, state BJP leaders including Kanna Lakshminarayana, Daggubati Purandeshwari, P Vishnuvardhan Reddy and legislators Somu Veerraju and P Vishnu Kummar Raj, met Governor E S L Narasimhan at Vijayawada on Thursday and submitted him a memorandum calling for inquiry into the alleged irregularities by the Telugu Deesam Party government in Andhra Pradesh.
Vishnu Kumar Raju said the floating of “Amaravati bonds” to raise Rs 2,000 crore for the construction of new capital city smacks of massive corruption.
“There is no hurry in going in for borrowing at such a high interest rate 10.7 per cent to be paid on quarterly basis, when other sources of funding are available. We suspect the loans are being taken only for obtaining kickbacks from the contractors involved in the work,” Raju said.
On other hand, Somu Veerraju alleged foul play in cancellation of tenders called for construction of Bhogapuram international airport which were bagged by the Airport Authority of India. He said the Naidu government is trying to handover the project to private parties.
GVL appealed to the Governor to order a CBI probe into alleged siphoning of funds through diverting treasury money of Rs 53,000 crore into personal deposit accounts (PD Accounts) of officials in AP.
They told Governor that there was rampant corruption by AP government in all these activities and CBI enquiry was needed to bring out the facts.
Apparently, the Governor said he had obtained enough information about these PD accounts and asked the BJP leaders to submit additional information, if any.
