Senior Congress leader and former Union minister T Subbarami Reddy on Monday met YSR Congress party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, amidst speculations that he would be seeking renomination to Rajya Sabha on YSRC ticket.
Subbarami Reddy is one among the four Rajya Sabha members from Andhra, who would be retiring next month. All these days he had been loyal to the Congress party and a close confidant of Sonia Gandhi family.
However, with his term coming to an end in a few weeks, Subbarami Reddy seems to have decided to try his luck for renomination from YSRC. Since he has friendly relations with everybody, he did not hesitate to approach Jagan. So, he met the chief minister at the latter’s camp office in Tadepalli in the afternoon.
He is learnt to have requested Jagan to give him the RS ticket again. He apparently told him that it would be his last term, if he was given a chance, as he was getting old and might retire from politics after that.
However, YSRC sources said Jagan clearly told him that it was not possible to consider his request as he had already finalised the candidates for the RS seat.
It would have been proper if Subbarami Reddy had approached him long ago and so, he cannot entertain last minute requests.
Party sources said Jagan had finalised the candidatures of Reliance Industries group chairman (corporate affairs) Parimal Nathwani, ministers Pilli Subhash Chandra Bose and Mopidevi Venkataramana, who would be losing their MLC posts shortly and industrialist-turned-politician Alla Ayodhya Rami Reddy.
