This is the film that unearths the human emotions. The friction between personal needs and provocative demands are skillfully painted on celluloid. The film turns an image on the canvass of eyeballs and speaks to our hearts. Melodious Urdu poetry in dialogues and lyrics, sweetens the film. The film weaves the emotions of love, patriotism, terrorism and small pleasures of life.
Story

Note:
· There is an interesting suspense in the film which is not revealing here.
· The names of artistes are used here, instead of character names to avoid confusion

Kajol, who is blind, is the daughter of Rishi Kapoor and Kiron Kher. They live in Udhampur area in Jammu and Kashmir. Parents nurture their daughter with love and affection. She learns dance and leaves for Delhi to give a performance along with her friends.

Aamir Khan is the guide, who meets Kajol and Co in Delhi. He’ll be devoted to Kajol through out her trip. Shares sheer poetry with her. Eventually, both Kajol and Aamir fall in love. They even experience the love ‘physically’.

Friends, who came along with Kajol leave for their place by leaving her responsibility to Aamir Khan. Kajol shares the matter of her love to her parents. They start from Udhampur to see their daughter and her fiancé. Meanwhile, Aamir Khan takes Kajol to an Ophthalmologist and confirms that she can get her eye sight. Aamir Khan admits her operation in the hospital and goes out for his work. She gets her sight back. Even her parents come and see their daughter. But they receive news that Aamir Khan was killed in a massive terrorist bomb blast that took place a few hours ago. They rush to see his body, but that’s completely disfigured and Kajol makes out that the corpse belongs to Aamir Khan, by feeling the touch of his dress and other belongings.

The real story begins then and goes with various twists and turns. Human emotions play vital role in the second half of the film. One has to watch and feel the theme that cannot be narrated here.

Performances

Aamir Khan as usually performed to his best by enticing the audiences. Kajol looks glamorous even after the marriage. She aptly performed the role of a blind girl in first half. Rishi Kapoor and Kiron Kher are adequate in character roles. The young boy who played the role of Kajol’s son looted the hearts of audiences with his cute dialogues and touching performance. Tabu has less to performa as she is grooved in the character of an Intelligence Officer.

Lyrics:
Lyrics play essential role in the composition of this film. Poetic fervor and emotional depth is seen in many lines.

‘Jaan se faa’iq..’ takes the senses to the culmination of musical delight and lyrical harmony.

‘Chanda Chamkee Cham Cham..’ sounds interesting and that would be the pet song for children. The song written with tongue twisters is really a praiseworthy experiment. Indeed, it recalls the song, ‘Chandu Ki Chacha Ne Chandu Ki Chaachi Ko Chandni Chamchi Se Chutney Chataaye..’. But that’s only the ‘mukhda’ that sounds to be a tongue twister. But here there are many such twisters.

Other songs are also situational and up to the mark.

Dialogues:

The film is pervaded with innumerable poetic dialogues. Theatres turned the platforms of ‘Mushaayiraa’, with ‘Wah Wah’s from the audiences.

Here are a few notable lines from the film.

Kajol: “Tere Dil Mein Meri Aasoon Ko Panaah Mil Jaye- Meri Dil Tere ishq mein fanaa ho jaye” (If my tears find shelter in your heart- My heart would die in your love).

Aamir Khan: “Hum Jo Khushboo hain saason mein basteh- Khud Ki Saason Ko Kaise Rukh Paavogey?”, (I’m the fragrance in your breathe- How can you stop your own breathe?)

Kajol: Hum ithifaaq se nahi mile, magar kismet se mile (we met fatefully but not accidentally)

Technical Departments:
Jatin’Lalit’s music, Ravi Chandran’s camera works are certainly laudable.

STORY-SCREENPLAY-DIRECTION:
Shibani Bhatija’s story and screenplay and Kunal Kohli’s direction are worth mentioning.

Analysis:

The film certainly allures the multiplex audiences. Audiences with a bent towards Urdu poetry can immensely enjoy it. First few minutes of the film runs in a routine style, putting the audiences in perplexed state. But then it takes to serious mode as soon as the completion of first half. Second half of the film totally changes its tempo. The film has the capability to entertain a set of audiences. The conviction in the theme cannot be compared to that of any of Aamir Khan’s recent releases. To sum up, as every film maker says, ‘Fanaa’ is something different!
