Opinion: A Global Virus

Opinion: A Global Virus

There is a popular saying in Telugu: "Rameswaram vellina, Senisvaram tappaledhu." If any Telugu person goes abroad and thinks that he will encounter a society bereft of casteism there, he is bound to be disappointed. Because it exists in an even more extreme form there.

And one community can probably take the credit for spreading this disease there.

Govt of AP has appointed Sri Jayaram Komati, USA as Special Representative, Govt of AP for North America with immediate effect.

With this, Sri Jayaram is expected to carry out liaison, coordination, facilitation, and assistance to Govt Officials, Dignitaries visiting North America and also work for mobilizing financial, technical, human recourse expertise from North America for the economic and cultural development of AP State.

Sri Jayaram hails from Mylavaram, Krishna district and is active in various community development activities in Krishna Dist and Andhra Pradesh.

He has been serving Telugu Desam Party for the last 12 years with several activities in USA including coordinating Sri Chandra Babu Naidu’s 10 city visit to USA as Head –NRI TDP, USA.

Similarly, Dr. Ravi Vemuru was appointed as an advisor to Government of Andhra Pradesh.

He will be advising regarding non -resident Telugu affairs including services and investments. He will be helping the Government introduce initiatives to assimilate Telugus living abroad with Telugu community here.

He will be encouraging Telugus living abroad take an active role in comprehensive multi -dimensional development of our villages through our Smart Villages and wards program.

He also will be creating a seamless transparent platform to encourage investments in to Andhra Pradesh to create multiple employment opportunities and partake in development of the state.

Neither of these appointments will generate any respect among Telugus overseas. They merely seem to be appointments to further the well-being of one particular community.

These are purely casteist appointments and by no means can the two gentlemen above, be considered as representatives of the Telugus overseas.

Are there no Telugus overseas, from other communities worthy of being considered for such positions? The community to which these people belong can in no way be considered as a representation of the Telugus.
